CONTRACT TALKS ONGOING

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the talks with the striker Danny Welbeck has been ongoing in recent weeks and that he is hopeful that the youth team product will sign a new deal with the club. The 21-year-old has become one of the surprise packages of last season for Manchester United after he managed to keep out the likes of Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov out of the starting line-up. He also scored almost 20 goals in his first season with Manchester United. Due to the fact that he has only two years left on his current contract, United are ready to offer him a new deal.

However, it is understood that both parties are way off before they can come to terms of the new deal. This is due to the fact that Danny Welbeck is demanding around £ 60,000 per week, while Manchester United are ready to offer him only half of the amount. Danny Welbeck’s stock has risen in recent weeks after he managed to successfully lead England to victories in the first two group matches of the Euro 2012. He led the line up in the absence of his Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney, who was suspended.

“We are negotiating with Danny’s brothers. They represent him. It’s difficult to say where we are with that at this moment in time. We’ve fostered him. He’s always had growth spurts and things like that, so we fostered him right that period when he was developing. I don’t think he’s got his full body yet. I think there’s a lot of growth in him yet. I don’t think he’ll get taller, he’s 6ft 3ins now,” said Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson regarding the future of Danny Welbeck. The youngster came through the academy at United.
