RAMPANT UNITED

Manchester United have been rampant in the Premier league so far this campaign, but they recently dropped points in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham. As a result, their archrivals Manchester City have been able to cut the lead for United at the top of the table to just five points. Many have claimed that City had a psychological advantage during the weekend because they played a day earlier than United. City took on Fulham on Saturday and managed to take all three points with a 2-0 victory. United took on Tottenham on Sunday in the league fixture, thus giving City a possible advantage.

The striker Danny Welbeck, though, has rejected such speculation by saying that United are looking to win the league title by being the best and not by looking at the other scores across the Premier league. The young England international has found first-team opportunities limited at the club this season. The arrival of Robin van Persie has meant that he has largely been played out of position or been on the bench for most of the matches. The Dutchman van Persie, though, proved his worth by scoring the only goal for United against Tottenham. Welbeck has made just 8 Premier league starts this season.

“Our main focus is ourselves and we’re not looking at anybody else. Getting three points is the main thing and we’re not looking for any other results. Obviously, City could shorten the gap and it is key that we maintain our seven-point lead. Every game we play in the league is important and the main thing is to go out and get the three points. We can’t watch other teams and see how they are doing. We have to look after ourselves,” said Welbeck in an interview given to the official website of the club.
