It might be a boring style of gameplay to you or many others, but it works, it’s all about having the ball. You play with the ball, the rival doesn’t have it. As simple as that. There is not one better player than Xavi & Iniesta to keep the ball on your side. If Messi played for Arsenal, Cesc would have a lot less goals, don’t you think?
