PIRES ASKS GIROUD TO STAY

Former Gunners player Robert Pires has asked his compatriot Olivier Giroud to remain at the Emirates Stadium past this summer amid reports that the former Ligue 1 star might exit the club.

Even before the addition of Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette, there were rumours that the Frenchman might leave Arsenal soon.

The player had a mixed performance last term and with the options that Arsene Wenger now has or is working towards having, then Giroud would get more bench time. Wenger is focused on ending his Premier League title drought this term so he wants to retain his best legs like Giroud.

Pires is in agreement that Giroud should not be allowed to leave the club if Arsenal want to lift the title next year. The France football legend added that Alexis Sanchez should not be sold off as well.

“If he [Giroud] stays, it is great news for Arsene Wenger. Now we have four strikers which is important for making the squad competitive. The objective now for Arsenal is to lift the Premier League trophy and in order to do that, you need to have a lot of strikers in your team,” Pires explained. Read More

WENGER OPENS UP ON RAMSEY AND BELLERIN

Arsene Wenger has opened up on Ramsey’s injury as the player remains on the sidelines.

The Arsenal boss said the Welsh midfielder will remain sidelined for sometime as he is working on his match fitness.

“Ramsey will not be available. I’m disappointed because he has worked very hard and he had a few little setbacks that forced us to be cautious with him, said Wenger.

The Gunners seem to have handled the absence of the Euro 2016 well enough, but fans are anxious for his return to action at least to provide depth.

“Next week will also come too early. We have decided that we will give him a complete pre season now, even if he misses more games,” Wenger added.

On Barcelona and Manchester City trying to lure Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin away from the Emirates, Wenger said:

“Of course his future is at Arsenal. That’s why I’m surprised by the speculation. He has nearly three years to go [on Bellerin’s current contract] and we always try get the players to the level where we think they deserve to be.”
Senior squad member at Arsenal, Santi Cazorla also waded into the issue, providing useful advice for Bellerin and other young players.

ARSENAL FIND SUBSTITUTE FOR STRIKERS AHEAD OF NEW SEASON

English Premier League side Arsenal FC are in serious search for substitutes to replace its strikers ahead of the forthcoming season, reports say.

They are interested in AC Milan forward Carlos Bacca, willing to snatch the player ahead of West Ham.

The Hammers have been seriously linked with the Colombia international as they plan on making him their marquee signing as they resume at the newly completed Olympic stadium. The club wanted former striker Carlos Tevez to make a return but both parties couldn’t agree personal terms. Manager Slaven Bilic has now made the Milan forward his primary target as they hope to build on their last season success. The 29-year old scored 18 goals in 38 games despite Milan finishing in the seventh place.

The player has always mentioned his desire to play in the UEFA Champions League, encouraging speculation that he was open to leaving the Italian side. Bacca told popular Spanish new outlet, AS: “It is my dream to play in Champions League and work toward winning it. Unfortunately, the failure for Milan to reach the tournament is one of the themes of our discussions with the club.”

SCOLES EXCITED ABOUT ENGLAND’S CHANCES AT EURO 2016

Retired Three Lions midfielder, Paul Scholes is the latest star to feel ‘excited’ by the team spirit within the current national squad as it prepares for Euro 2016.

The former Manchester United star, Scholes, believes England go into the forthcoming tournament in great shape compared to other competitions over the past decade.

He also says Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane should start up front, adding Jamie Vardy could be used as a high-quality substitute.

Scholes collected 66 caps and represented England in four summer tournaments – the World Cups of 1998 and 2002, and European Championships in 2000 and 2004. He told the Daily Mail:

“I’m really excited – more than I have been over the last three or four tournaments.

“The team spirit is brilliant. In the last four or five tournaments I don’t think the team spirit was at its strongest but these players are willing to learn.

“They’re young players, they listen to coaches and they are listening to team-mates.

“We probably won’t win it yet but they’re not too far away from possibly the semi-final when you look at the talent in the squad. Read More
