WELBECK SET FOR FIRST START AGAINST SOUTHAMPTON

Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is set to get his first start this campaign when the Gunners face Southampton this weekend.

Arsenal are playing in the fourth round of the FA Cup and coach Arsene Wenger would continue with his squad rotation policy which is set to see Welbeck make his first start after a long while.

Since his long term knee injury, Welbeck has played 21 minutes in substitute appearances but he is set to start the game against the Saints. Wenger was forced to play the former Red Devils star when Arsenal were on the brink in the game against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday. With Granit Xhaka continuing his trade craft of getting sent off and the team crumbling Wenger had to send Welbeck in.

Wenger might not even get to watch the game on Saturday pending a misconduct charge from the FA. The French tactician was caught on camera pushing a fourth official after he was sent off the pitch in the dying minutes of the Burnley game. It is unlikely that he would contest the charge but he has until Thursday to respond.   Read More

INJURIES BEDEVIL UNITED-ARSENAL CLASH

Many injury concerns ahead of the clash between Manchester United and Arsenal might have eclipsed the excitement during the game.

Both sides are keen on emerging victors, particularly in the face of increased competition for the Premier League title this season. However, key players on both sides are in the race against time to pass final fitness test before Saturday afternoon.

For Arsenal, striker Danny Welbeck is yet to feature this season, and he would not be available for the tie. Centre back Per Mertesacker has left rehab but has not been declared fully fit for football games yet. Summer singing Shkodran Mustafi is expected to partner with Laurent Koscielny for the match. Another summer addition Lucas Perez is sidelined alongside playmaker Santi Cazorla and defender Hector Bellerin. Carl Jenkinson is the likely replacement for Bellerin.

Alexis Sanchez picked up an injury during the international break. Chile national team coach risked him despite warning from Coach Arsene Wenger that playing could worsen the situation.

The Chilean went on to score two crucial goals that helped them defeat Uruguay 3-1, and reposition their World Cup dream. He has told Wenger that he is in good shape ahead of the Red Devils clash, but Wenger would have to hope nothings happens before then.

Manchester United would be missing Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the player would be serving a suspension. Defenders Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling are out injured. Antonio Valencia, Wayne Rooney, and Marouane Fellaini are set to miss the match. Mourinho would have to dig deep when making his tactics and selection for the clash, else Wenger might run away with a victory at Old Trafford. The bookies still give United the nod with a 55 percent chance of winning; while Arsenal have 18 percent chance to steal a victory at Old Trafford.

WENGER OPENS UP ON RAMSEY AND BELLERIN

Arsene Wenger has opened up on Ramsey’s injury as the player remains on the sidelines.

The Arsenal boss said the Welsh midfielder will remain sidelined for sometime as he is working on his match fitness.

“Ramsey will not be available. I’m disappointed because he has worked very hard and he had a few little setbacks that forced us to be cautious with him, said Wenger.

The Gunners seem to have handled the absence of the Euro 2016 well enough, but fans are anxious for his return to action at least to provide depth.

“Next week will also come too early. We have decided that we will give him a complete pre season now, even if he misses more games,” Wenger added.

On Barcelona and Manchester City trying to lure Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin away from the Emirates, Wenger said:

“Of course his future is at Arsenal. That’s why I’m surprised by the speculation. He has nearly three years to go [on Bellerin’s current contract] and we always try get the players to the level where we think they deserve to be.”
Senior squad member at Arsenal, Santi Cazorla also waded into the issue, providing useful advice for Bellerin and other young players.

Welbeck back by Christmas

Arsenal has received an injury boost with the news that Danny Welbeck will be back in the team by Christmas.

The England striker has been injured since the end of last season, and there were fears that the player could have missed the whole of this season. This will be great news for Arsenal as they are currently short on striking power and would welcome the news.

Arsene Wenger made the announcement in a press conference before the weekend matches. The manager said that Welbeck is a valuable member of the team and that his return will add a much-needed boost at the front for Arsenal. He said initially it was expected that the player would be out until next April, but a recent test has revealed that the player is healing faster than expected and that he will be back by Christmas.

On the other hand, Arsenal will be missing Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi until the next international break. Both players were injured in the defeat against Liverpool and will need at least 2-3 weeks treatment before being able to play again in the first team. He said that the injuries are down to the fact that the players did not have enough time to recover after their participation at the Euros.

SCOLES EXCITED ABOUT ENGLAND’S CHANCES AT EURO 2016

Retired Three Lions midfielder, Paul Scholes is the latest star to feel ‘excited’ by the team spirit within the current national squad as it prepares for Euro 2016.

The former Manchester United star, Scholes, believes England go into the forthcoming tournament in great shape compared to other competitions over the past decade.

He also says Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane should start up front, adding Jamie Vardy could be used as a high-quality substitute.

Scholes collected 66 caps and represented England in four summer tournaments – the World Cups of 1998 and 2002, and European Championships in 2000 and 2004. He told the Daily Mail:

“I’m really excited – more than I have been over the last three or four tournaments.

“The team spirit is brilliant. In the last four or five tournaments I don’t think the team spirit was at its strongest but these players are willing to learn.

“They’re young players, they listen to coaches and they are listening to team-mates.

“We probably won’t win it yet but they’re not too far away from possibly the semi-final when you look at the talent in the squad. Read More

Danny Welbeck and Arsenal’s season are looking grim

Arsenal’s season started off rather promising as they managed to seal up the top spots of the Premier League and stay up to par with the table-toppers Leicester City for the majority of the season but after a recent string of underwhelming results and dropped points, Arsenal started to lose their pace for the league title and the only way that the team of Arsene Wenger can become the champions of England will be if Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur both begin to lose matches at a consistent basis.

There is a realistic possibility of Arsenal becoming the new champions of England but it will ultimately depend on the results that the top 2 clubs manage to get and from the looks of it, they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

In Arsenal’s Champions League run, Arsene Wenger’s team failed to reach the quarter-finals of the European competition as they lost against Barcelona with an aggregate score of 5-1. After these matches were over, Danny Welbeck had a few things to say in relation to why Arsenal lost and why they have been falling apart in these later stages of the season.

“We had some chances, it was difficult to come here 2-0 down but we had a plan to get through, it was a difficult occasion for us and unfortunately we couldn’t get through. We had a couple of opportunities where we should have done better and with the quality they have then they are clinical when they have chances.Coming to the Nou Camp you really want to leave your mark, we could have done better in certain situations and it is disappointing.” Read More
